يُعَدّ هذا الكتاب باكورة المؤلفات التي تتناول حياة إبراهيم باشا ابن محمد علي باشا ومؤسس إمبراطوريته الحديثة، خطه قلم المؤرخ الشامي سليمان أبو عز الدين ونشر في بيروت عام 1929، مختصا بجانب مهم من حياة هذا القائد الكبير؛ إذ عالج المؤلف فيه باستفاضة تلك الفترة شبه المجهولة والتي قضاها إبراهيم باشا حاكمًا للشام من عام 1831 إلى عام 1841، لكنه كان حريصًا أيضًا على بدء هذه الرحلة التاريخية الشائقة بتتبع رحلة الأب (محمد علي باشا) منذ قدومه إلى مصر وتوليه حكمها وطموحه التوسعي غير المحدود، وموقع الشام في مشروعه هذا، ثم تحقيق رغبته في الاستيلاء عليه، وهنا يبدأ في استعراض انتصارات إبراهيم باشا العسكرية المتوالية، وإدارته المدنية والصعوبات التي واجهها نتيجة للسياسات التي فرضها أبوه من ناحية، وبروز الأطماع الأجنبية ثم تحققها من ناحية أخرى. وهو ما أسفر فيما بعد عن فشل مشروعه وتحجيم الدور المصري في الشام.
لقد نجح المؤلف في أن يوظف مادته جيدًا، وتمتع بحيادية الباحث عن الحقيقة برصده لكل من مميزات وسلبيات الحكم المصري في الشام. كما أن الدراسة العلمية الجادة التي قدمت بها الدكتورة لطيفة محمد سالم للكتاب أضافت إليه قيمة علمية ورصانة تجعله يسد نقصًا كبيرًا في المكتبة العربية.
