يهدف هذا الكتاب في واحدة من مساعيه إلى تبيان أن ثمة سينما سورية تستطيع أن تكون فاعلة، ومؤثرة، جماهيرياً، ورسمياً، وأن تتقدم نحو مواقع أفضل، وأكثر حضوراً، وأن ثمة سينمائيين سوريين مبدعين وطموحين وعنيدين، وهذا بالضبط ما جعل لهذه السينما رؤيتها ورؤاها ومواقعها التي تقدمها، بجرأة ملفتة أحياناً.. فالسينما السورية، تستمر بالتحدي والعناد... بالعشق... أكثر (ربما) من الدوافع الأخرى كافة... وما المواضيع التي يتم التوقف عندها في هذا الكتاب إلا مفاتيح للغوص في عالم هذه السينما، وتجوال في ثنايا المواقف التي تبنتها، وتقديمها بصورة تحاول الموضوعية، ما أمكن.
إن السينما السورية هي إحدى مفردات الفعالية الثقافية الفكرية والابداعية في سوريا وبالتالي فإن النظر إليها يجب أن يرتبط بمجمل تفاصيل هذه الفعالية والظروف والشروط التاريخية التي تنتج وتؤثر في طبيعة هذه الفعالية خاصة ونحن نتحدث عن السينما التي أنتجها القطاع العام أي أداة الإدارة والإشراف والمتابعة والتقرير والتنفيذ في العملية السينمائية, فالمؤسسة العامة للسينما فضلاً عن كونها منتجاً سينمائياً بشكل مباشر منفردة أو بالتعاون مع جهات أخرى هي أيضاً الجهة الوصائية في مجال الموافقة على أي خطوة في العملية السينمائية بدءاً من الموافقة على السيناريو غلى السماح بالتصوير ومن ثم الموافقة على العرض بعد مشاهدة الفيلم ذاته الذي كان قد مر بتلك المراحل كافة.
ويتناول الكتاب المواضيع التالية المتعلقة بألوان السينما السورية: من المغامرة الفردية إلى القطاع العام, المخرجون والاتجاهات, سينما المؤلف المخرج، بين افول النجم وانكسار البطل، الأنثروبولوجية... الإثنوغرافية، البيئة.. المكان، البنية والعلاقات الاجتماعية، فيلموغرافيا السينما السورية، بطاقات الأفلام السورية.
