ليست سياسةُ الأدب سياسةَ الكتّاب وإلتزاماتهم، ولا هي تتعلّقُ بالطريقةِ التي يصوّرون بها البنى الإجتماعية أو الصراعات السياسية؛ إنّ تعبيرَ "سياسة الأدب" يفترضُ وجودَ صلةٍ محدّدةٍ بين السياسة، بوصفها شكلاً من أشكال الفعلِ الجماعيّ، والأدبِ، بوصفه نظاماً محدّداً تاريخياً لفنِّ الكتابة.
يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى إظهارِ كيفَ أنّ الثورةَ الأدبيةَ تقلبُ، فعلياً، نظامَ العالم المحسوس الذي كان يدعمُ التراتبياتِ التقليدية، ولما تُحبِط المساواةُ الأدبيةُ كلَّ رغبةٍ في وضع الأدبِ في خدمةِ السياسة أو مكانّها، مثل: فلوبير وتولستوي وملارميه وبريخت وبورخيس وآخرين وغيرهم، كما يُظهرُ تَبِعاتِها على التأويلِ التحليلي النفسيّ وعلى السردِ التاريخيّ والتصوُّرِ الفلسفيّ.
