الحَمدُ للهِ وَحدَه، والصَّلَاةُ والسَّلَامُ عَلَىٰ مَن لَا نَبِيَّ بَعدَهُ وآلِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ الغُرِّ الميَٰامِينَ، وسلَّمَ تَسلِيمًا:
وبَعدُ فهٰذِهِ رِسالةٌ مُختصَرَةٌ مُوجزَةٌ في فَنِّ التَّأريخِ والتَّوثيق، المعروف بحساب الجمل، وهو فنٌّ غريبٌ على السَّامعِ، قريبٌ من البارعِ، ولمَّا رأَيتُ ما فيه من اللُّغزِ واللَّطافة، عجَّلتُ في اقتطافه، وآنَستُه لمن خافه، وقد عُرف -أيضًا- بالصَّنعةِ المعقَّدَة وعليه سَمَّيتُ رسالتي فيه بـ(الرِّسالة المُجَوَّدَة في الصَّنعَة المعقَّدَة) رَاجِيًا أَنْ تَكُونَ يَسِيرَةً مُبسَّطَةً، وَعَلَىٰ ٱللهِ أَعتَمِدُ وبِهِ أَعتَضِدُ وهوَ نِعمَ المُعِينُ.
