أنا جميلة ابنةُ سورية. أنا القصير، وقبرُ أمِّي تحتَ شجرة لزَّاب في جُرودِ قارَّة.
جميلة يبرود وريما وبصرى، أنا شقيقةُ تيم حَلَب، وَخالد إدلب، أنا الكمأةُ السَّمراء التي صنعَهَا البرقُ في باديةِ الشَّام.
أنا قطِّينة وسورُ دمشق والطَّريقُ المستقيم وعيونُ حنانيا وجفونُ الأموي.
أنا جميلة حفنةُ تُرابٍ من سورية تحمِلُ نفسَ رائحةِ أمِّي.
أنا جميلة التي سمّاني والدي باسم جدتي الطيَّبة التي كانت تغزِلُ الصُّوفَ لتطعِمَ أُسرتهَا.
أنا صديقةُ جينا التي علَّمتني «أبانا الذي في السَّمَوَات» وعلمتُهَا الفاتحة.
أنا جميلة الضائعة عن الوطن، والتائهة في الوطن.
اسمي هو مَلامحي التي أراها كلَّ صباحٍ في المرآة؛ حاجباي يُذكِّرانني بالفراتِ ودجلة، وفي عينيّ تعيشُ دِمشقُ وَحَلَب.
عندما أبكي يطوفُ العاصي، وَعندما أفرحُ تزغرِدُ درعا.
أطفال بلدي يلعبون على خدَّيَ، وخطوط جبهتي تندى بعرقِ أجدادي.
هذهِ هي مَلامحي...
