لأجل أن تتمكن الإنسانية من الاستمرار في العيش على سطح الأرض؛ أصبحَت حماية البيئة من التلوث والفساد حاجةً ملحةً، وذلك بعد ظهور المشكلات البيئية نتيجةً لتزايد عدد السكان، وتطوُّر الصناعات، وكثرة الحروب، واستخدام الأسلحة الكيماوية والنووية؛ مع قلّة الموارد الطبيعية وسوء استخدامها.
وقد دار الفصل الأول من هذا الكتاب حول بيان أن مفهوم حماية البيئة له أصول الثابتة في نصوص القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية، وأنّ الشريعة الإسلامية سبقت القوانينَ الوضعية في تشريعاته.
وعرّج الفصلُ الثاني على حماية البيئة في القانون الدولي لحقوق الإنسان؛ عبر الحديث عن الصكوك الدولية والإقليمية، والآليات والمؤسسات الدولية لحماية البيئة.
وتطرق الفصل الثالث إلى حماية البيئة في القوانين الوطنية والآلية المطلوبة لتلك الحماية (إقليم كوردستان – العراق نموذجاً)؛ لأن المخاطر البيئية في كوردستان كما هو الحال في كثير من بلدان العالم أصبحت تهدد حياة المواطنين، بسبب تعرضه لعدة حروب؛ استخدمت فيها الأسلحة المختلفة حتى المحرمة دولياً.
