هذا الكتابُ هو جوابُ سؤالٍ رُفع مِن حَلَب إلى الإمام الحافظ قطب الدين الخَيضِري، في مسألة السماع (الغناء)، وقد استقصى فيه مذاهب العلماء في المسألة، مع تفصيل دقيق لا يكاد يوجد عند غيره، كما استقرأ أغلب المؤلفات في الموضوع من بداية التأليف فيه إلى عصره، وذكر منها مؤلفات لا تُعرف إلا من جهته. ولم يتعرض للأدلة الفقهية لكل فريق وما يَرِدُ عليها، فكان كتابه وصفيًّا استقرائيًّا. وقد اختار المؤلف في آخر كتابه جواز نوع من السماع. ولا شك أن إخراج هذا الكتاب يسهم في إثراء هذا الموضوع الذي يكثر الجدل حوله، ويبدي لنا آراء بعض العلماء الذين رخّصوا في مسائلَ من هذا الباب.
وقد ألحقنا بهذا الكتاب أثرًا آخر مهمًّا للحافظ الخيضري، وهو إجازته للوزير محمود باشا العثماني، رحمهما الله تعالى
