تمثل الوجوه الأسلوبية في الخطاب الحجاجي، البعد الأدبي في هذا الخطاب، على نحو ما تمثل الشق التخييلي في مفهوم البلاغة؛ وأي إقصاء لها في مقاربة الخطاب الحجاجي، هو تضييق للبلاغة وحصر للحجاج في الطرائق العقلية. فإذا ما قبلنا بالمفهوم الموسع للبلاغة وللحجاج، وإذا ما تخلينا عن فكرة التلازم بين استخدام الأسلوب والنزوع إلى مخادعة المخاطب أو مغالطته، فإن الأسلوب سيكتسب قيمته البلاغية الحجاجية، وسيصعب إسقاطه من مكونات الخطاب الحجاجي؛ فهو ذو صلة وطيدة بحضور صورة المتكلم في هذا الخطاب، وذو صلة بتشكيل الأهواء التي تثار في وجدان المخاطب، كما أنه لا ينفصل عن المكون العقلي في الحجاج كما تكشف عديد من الوجوه الأسلوبية التي ترتكز على بنيات حجاجية كما حاول أن يبين ذلك برلمان. وإذا ما أضفنا إلى كل هذه العوامل التي تبرز الأهمية البلاغية الحجاجية للوجوه الأسلوبية، حضورها البارز في النصوص النثرية العربية القديمة، ومنها رسائل الجاحظ، فإن أي مقاربة بلاغية لهذه النصوص لا تستثمر فعالية الطاقة الأسلوبية في صناعة هذه البلاغة، ستظل مقاربة مبتورة. ولعل كتاب حسن الطويل أن يمثل خطوة على طريق إعادة الوجوه الأسلوبية إلى الخطاب الحجاجي، بعدما تنكرت لها الدراسات البلاغية التقليدية، والدراسات الحجاجية المغالية في إقصائها لها من دائرة الحجاج.
