يعتبر نبات زهرة النيل من اخطر النباتات ضرراً على الإنسان وبيئته في العالم. الموطن الأصلي لهذا النبات هو حوض نهر ألامزون في قارة أميركا الجنوبية ومنها انتشر إلى العديد من دول العالم وخاصة في المناطق الاستوائية وشبه الاستوائية ومنها مصر لهذا النبات شكل مميز وجذاب بسبب أزهاره الأرجوانية الكبيرة وهو نبات يطفو على الماء يمتلك أوراقا دائرية أو بيضاوية الشكل ذات لون اخضر لامع بعضها منتفخ يعمل كطوافات تساعد النبات في الطفو، يتراوح قطر النبات ما بين 20 ـ 30 سم أما
