تعرض السودان لأنواع الأحداث والظواهر الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والسياسية منذ عهد قديم ولم يخل الأمر من صراع على الخيرات الوفيرة التى جعلت السودان هدفاً لأطماع الطامعين وتمثلت مشكلة جنوب السودان أساساً فى الإختلافات الطبيعية في الكيان الإجتماعي والثقافي والبيئة التي شكلت موقعاً جغرافياً مميزاً، واستطاع الإستعمار أن يجعلها معضلة صعبة الحل وأدت إلي أكبر حدث سياسي في تاريخ السودان بعد الإستقلال وهو الإنفصال الكامل وقيام دولة جنوب السودان المستقلة سياسياً وسيادياً ولم تتوقف الأطماع الخارجية الباحثة عن المصالح الخاصة عند هذا الإنفصال بل سعت لإمتداد الشقاق وبُعد الوحدة أو حتى التعاون فيما بين الدولتين، وحملت أجندتها الخاصة معاول الفرقة لتضرب في كل الإتجاهات، حتى كانت قضية ترسيم الحدود.
