ظل كثير من المؤرخين حتى اليوم ينسبون هذا الكتاب الذي نقدم له اليوم إلى ابن زولاق المتوفي سنة 378هـ. فبروكلمان ينسب في كتابة تاريخ الأدب العربي ج 3 ص 83 كتاب لابن زولاق بعنوان تاريخ مصر وفضائلها ويشير إلى أنه الموجود بالمكتبة الوطنية بباريس برقم 1817. وسزكين كذلك في كتابه تاريخ التراث العربي ج 1 ص 582 ينسبه لابن زولاق، ولكنه يذكر أن عنوانه " تاريخ مصر وأخبارها
