كان هذا الكتاب التاريخي ينسب خطئا إلى ابن زولاق وهو المتوفي عام 378هـ ومع هذا يحتوي الكتاب على أخبار تتعدى هذا العام ليدل ذلك على خطأ هذا النسب ويحتوي هذا الكتاب ويجمع كل ما ورد من مصر في القرآن قم في حديث الرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام ثم دعاء الأنبياء عليهم السلام لمصر كذلك يحتوي على خبر من ولد من الانبياء على أرض مصر ويلي ذلك ذكر عن عجائب ومحاسن هذا البلد ليبدأ بعدها التأريخ عن ملوك مصر من اول الجبابرة والفراعنة ودولة الأقباط ثم الفتح الإسلامي إلى ان يصل إلى خبر العصر الملوكي وسلطنه الملك المنصور قلاوون الألفي.
ظل كثير من المؤرخين حتى اليوم ينسبون هذا الكتاب الذي نقدم له اليوم إلى ابن زولاق المتوفي سنة 378هـ.
فبروكلمان ينسب في كتابة تاريخ الأدب العربي ج 3 ص 83 كتاب لابن زولاق بعنوان تاريخ مصر وفضائلها ويشير إلى أنه الموجود بالمكتبة الوطنية بباريس برقم 1817.
وسزكين كذلك في كتابه تاريخ التراث العربي ج 1 ص 582 ينسبه لابن زولاق، ولكنه يذكر أن عنوانه " تاريخ مصر وأخبارها" ويشير كذلك إلى أنه الموجود بباريس برقم 1817.
وسار على هذا النهج كذلك الدكتور حسن إبراهيم حسن في مؤلفه عن تاريخ الدولة الفاطمية ، فنقل جملة من نصوص هذا الكتاب موضوع الدراسة، ونسبها إلى ابن زولاق وصرح في حواشية المتعددة بأن هذه النقول عن كتاب ابن زولاق بالمكتبة الأهلية بباريس برقم 1817.
كما اعتمده الدكتور عطيه القوصي في كتابه: " تجارة مصر في البحر الأحمر منذ فجر الإسلام حتى سقوط الخلافة العباسية"
وينص صراحة في نقوله على أنها لابن زولاق في تاريخ مصر: مخطوطة بالمكتبة الأهلية بباريس برقم 1817.
وقد تكرر لديه النقل عن ابن زولاق على هذه الصورة.
والحقيقة أن نسبة الكتاب لابن زولاق في كل هذه الأقوال خطأ ، إذ ورد في صفحاته الأولى وفي الورقة الثانية على وجه التحديد خبر ذيل نصه بعبارة: " ذكره المقريزي في كتابة "
يضاف إلى ذلك ان هذا الكتاب الذي نقدم له اليوم ، ورد في آخر ذكر اسمى السلطان وطومان باي ، وهما من ملوك مصر المماليك في أوائل القرن العاشر الهجري.
