المقاومة الشعبية لها بعدها التاريخي في فلسطين بالرجوع إلى عام 1917 عندما خرجت الجماهير الفلسطينية للتعبير عن رفضها لوعد بلفور وما تلي ذلك من إضرابات ومظاهرات نددت بالهجرة الصهيونية إلى فلسطين التاريخية ما قبل عام 1948، وابرز هذه الإضرابات إضراب عام 1936 الذي كان له الأثر البالغ في قرارات الانتداب البريطاني، ولان المقاومة الشعبية شكل من أشكال المقاومة وأسلوب نضالي مارسته العديد من الشعوب والدول الرازحة تحت ظلم الاحتلال، للحصول على الاستقلال والحرية، أو الوقوف في وجه الأنظمة الديكتاتورية المتسلطة، فقد مارس الشعب الفلسطيني هذا الشكل من أشكال النضال في وجه الانتداب البريطاني ومن ثم في وجه الاحتلال الصهيوني، وكان ابرز هذه النشاطات انتفاضة عام 1987م وبداية انتفاضة عام 2000م .
