هذا الكتاب عبارة عن توثيق لوقائع الحلقة الدراسية التي عقدت في قاعة المعهد العالمي للفكر الإسلامي/ مكتب الأردن بعنوان"دور الكتب والمكتبات في الحضارة العربية الإسلامية".وقد تمت هذه الحلقة في إطار التنسيق بين المعهد العالمي للفكر الإسلامي وجمعية المكتبات الأردنية، ولعلها أولى بوادر التعاون التي ستتواصل في قابل الأيام إن شاء الله.وقد اشتمل الكتاب على ثلاثة أقسام:القسم الأول: ورقة الدكتور ربحي عليان" الكتب والمكتبات في الحضارة العربية الإسلامية"التي أعدت خصيصاً لهذه الحلقة، بالإضافة إلى المداخلات والتعقيبات من المتخصصين في مجال علم المكتبات والمعلومات في المؤسسات الأكاديمية و والثقافية المختلفة.أما القسم الثاني: فقد تناول عرضاً مفصلاً لكتابين مختارين من الكتب التي تناولت المكتبات العربية الإسلامية في العصور المختلفة.أما القسم الثالث والأخير: فهو عبارة عن تعريف موجز ببعض الكتب الوراقية ( الببليوغرافية) المختارة التي تناولت التراث الإسلامي معرفة به وبؤلفيه.يعد هذا الكتاب بالفعل محاولة جادة للتعريف بالكتاب العربي الإسلامي، والمكتبات العربية الإسلامية، ويستبطن دعوة لإلقاء الضوء على هذا الجانب ودراسته، ودراسة تراث أمتنا المجيد،لإعادة فهمه و تحقيق التواصل المنشود بين الأجيال التي ساهمت في صناعته وبنائه، والاستفادة من الأفكار الصالحة لزماننا ومكاننا.
