إن القيم في أية أمة، جزء من مشروعها الحضاري: وفي غيبة هذا المشروع الحضاري لا بد أن نتوقع خللاً دائماً في بناء القيم على المستوى العام والخاص، سواء تعلق الأمر بقيم السلوك الفردي أم الأداء العام.
فخيارنا الحضاري لم يحسم على المستوى العام، وبالتالي، فهذا المشروع لم تنضج معالمه بعد، حتى نكاد في بعض الأحيان، كما لو كنا ما نزال نبحث عن طريقنا، ونرجو أن نكون على ثقة في كفاءة ما نملك في سبيل الخلاص المنشود.
فالنهضة الحقيقية لا تقوم إلا على مشروع حضاري مستقل يرتكز على الدعائم الأساسية للمجتمع، ويتصل بينابيعه وجذوره، فالحضارة الغربية على سبيل المثال ما زالت موصولة بينابيعها الثلاثة، في الحقوق والسياسة والتقاليد الإغريقية في الفكر والفن.
إن خصوصية كل مجتمع لا بد أن تنعكس بشكل أو بآخر على مشروعه الحضاري، وإن أي إخلال بهذه القاعدة بالاستعارة أو التزوير أو الترقيع، لا بد أن يشكك في جدوى ذلك المشروع وقدرته في التعبير عن الواقع الذي يتعامل معه. وبكلمة أخرى – قد يراها آخرون مؤلمة – فمشروعنا الحضاري لا قيام له إلا بالعروبة قاعدة مرتجاة وأملاً منشوداً، على أن يتفجر هذا الواقع بشرارة الإسلام.
