كانت قبيلة لَخْم من هذه القبائل العربية العريقة التي لعبت دورًا جليلا فى الحياة العلمية بالأندلس؛ وهي فى الأصل قبيلة يمنية، هاجرت فى البداية إلى العراق، وأسست فيه دولة المناذرة وعاصمتها الحيرة، وبعد الإسلام هاجر منها إلى مصر جماعة، كما هاجرت إلى الأندلس، فدخلت مع جيوش الفتح الإسلامي واستقرت بمواضع عدة بالأندلس، وكانت إِشْبِيلِيَة حاضرتهم التي استقروا بها؛ فاشتهر منهم بإِشْبِيلِيَة: بنو عباد، وبنو الباجي، وبنو حجاج، وبقُرْطُبة اشتهر منهم: بنو زياد، وبطُلَيْطُلَة اشتهر منهم: بنو وافد، وغيرهم.
