سجستان أو "سيستان" بلاد شاسعة الرقعة إلي الشرق من إيران، وأطلق عليها "نيمروز" إحياءً للأسماء التاريخية القومية الفارسية القديمة، واسم "نيمروز" بالفارسية معناه نصف يوم أو بلاد الجنوب، واستعمل هذا الاسم "نيمروز" في شاهنامة "الفردوسي" ليعبر عن أرض الجنوب بخراسان(1)، وهي تشمل الأراضي التَّي تقع بين فارس وأفغانستان الحالية(2)، وكانت سجستان في العهد الساساني- (حكموا إيران منذ سنة 224 أو 226م- 642م)- جزءاً من إيرانشهر يحكمها أسبهذ يلقب "بيد وسيان" وأربعة مرازبة يحكم كل منهم ربع البلاد: الربع الأول مروالشاهجان وأعمالها، والربع الثاني بلخ وطخارستان والربع الثالث هراة وبوشنج وباذغيس وسجستان، والربع الأخير يشمل بلاد ما وراء النهر ...
