كلمة غوامض الصحاح، لا تتجه إلى ما يسمى بغريب اللغة أو حوشيها، وإنما تتجه إلى غموض الاشتقاق وصعوبة رد الكلمة المذكورة إلى أصلها، وخاصة لدى من يتمرّس بالتصريف ويعرف شعابه ومسالكه، كما قرر «الصفدي » في مقدمته للكتاب ولذلك كان يذكر بعض تلك الغوامض ولا يذكر معناها، لأن معناها من الوضوح والشياع بحيث لا يخفى على أحد، لكن الغموض والصعوبة إنما هما في رد الكلمة إلى أصلها
