يأتي كتاب «فض الختام عن التورية والاستخدام» لصلاح الدين الصفدي، لينتظم في سلك المؤلفات البلاغية والنقدية ذات القيمة العلمية البالغة في تراثنا الأدبي، فهو أول كتاب في التراث البلاغي يتتبَّع ظاهرة أسلوبية هي التورية، تتبعاً تاريخياً في مختلف العصور الإسلامية، ويعرف بها، وينقل أقوال العلماء فيها، ويرجِّح بين آرائهم؛ ولذلك فقد وسم الصفدي كتابه بفضِّ الختام، وفي ذلك دلالة رمزية. وقد حشد الصفدي لموضوع التورية طائفة من الشواهد الشعرية والنثرية والأخبار والروايات، من كتب الأدب ودواوين الشعراء، وكثير من هذه الشواهد قد لا تجدها في مصدر آخر، ومن ذلك نقله عن كتاب «نظم الدر في نقد الشعر» لابن جبارة المصري، وهو كتاب مفقود، وكذلك روايته لأشعار المحدَثين من العصر الفاطمي والأيوبي والمملوكي، ممن لم تصل إلينا دواوينهم الشعرية، كابن عبد الظاهر، وناصر الدين ابن النقيب، وابن قرناص، وغيرهم الكثير.
