ولد عام 1948 في مدينة بغداد.
نال بكالوريوس الآداب 1969, وماجستير فقه اللغة بتقدير ممتاز 1973, ودكتوراه فقه اللغة بتقدير ممتاز 1978.
تدرج في وظائف هيئة التدريس بقسم اللغة العربية بجامعة بغداد منذ 1973 حتى وصل إلى الأستاذية.
شارك في العديد من المؤتمرات واللقاءات والمهرجانات الأدبية والشعرية على المستوى المحلي والعربي والدولي.
نشر الكثير من شعره وأبحاثه اللغوية والأدبية في عشرات دكتور محمد حسين آل ياسين .

مؤلفاته منها : مقدمة في الأصول اللغوية المشتركة بين العربية والعبرية - الأضداد في اللغة- العربية وبعض ظواهرها القديمة - الدراسات اللغوية عند العرب.
حصل على جوائز شعرية, من جامعة بغداد, وجمعية المؤلفين والكتاب, والمجمع العلمي, واتحاد الأدباء وغيرها.
