ويقول عنها «هذه المسرحية ليس فيها إلا القليل من الخيال، فهى مأخوذة من سجلات التاريخ التى نقلها الرواة ودونها الفصحاء من كتاب الحوليات والموسوعات وهى مبنية أساساً على رسالة كتبها حنين بن اسحق بخط يده بعنوان (المحنة الكبرى) ونقلها بن أبى أصيبعة فى كتاب (عيون الأنباء فى طبقات الأطباء بطلها طبيب عبقرى ومترجم فذ ساهم بأكبر الجهود فى نقل العلوم والفلسفة الإغريقية، وكان له أكبر الأثر فى بعث الحضارة العربية. بطلنا عاش فى العصر العباسى، وعاصر مجد بغداد، وحظى بأعلى مراتب التقدير والإعجاب، لكنه لم يسلم من التنكيل والتعذيب من حكام تحكمهم الأهواء، ومناخ يغلب عليه الاستبداد، وتلونه مشاهد العنف والدماء.
