في كتابه الجديد هذا «أنياب الخليفة.. وأنامل الجنرال» الصادر عن الدار العربية للعلوم ناشرون ودار الناشر العربي الدولي (2019)، والمتزامن صدوره مع مئوية الرئيس أنور السادات بعد مئوية الرئيس جمال عبد الناصر، يضيء المؤلف فؤاد مطر على وقائع وخفايا مرحلة بالغة الأهمية عاشتها مصر وواكبها كصحافي أخذت التطورات السياسية من متابعته واهتمامه الكثير. والمرحلة المشار إليها بالذات ذات محورين: (الأول) يتعلق بوراثة السادات لرفيق ثورة 23 يوليو 1952 وقائدها عبد الناصر وكيف انتهى الصراع إلى أن الرئيس الوريث بعدما تمكَّن وجَّه ضربات متتالية إلى الحقبة الناصرية وأبعد رموزها عن المشهد السياسي والشأن العسكري. البعض اعتقالاً والبعض الآخر تهميشاً. أما المحور (الثاني) فيتمثل بالعلاقة المصرية – السوفياتية التي بدأها الرئيس السادات بمعاهدة أبرمها على غير اقتناع مع الاتحاد السوفياتي ثم ألغاها بنفسه وألحق بذلك أقسى إهانة معنوية بمهابة الاتحاد السوفياتي. وفي السياق ذاته، تأتي مرحلة بلسمة الجراح المعنوية لروسيا البوتينية بداية من جانب الرئيس حسني مبارك وترسيخاً استراتيجياً مع الرئيس عبد الفتاح السيسي. وفي معالجته للموضوع من كافة المحطات التي تعكس الصراع والمنازلات يعتمد فؤاد مطر على الوثائق وما تسنَّى له الإطلاع عليه من معلومات في إضبارات بعض دوائر صنع القرار لم تأخذ طريقها إلى الكشف عنها، ومن دون أن يغادر نهجه الموضوعي وبما يخدم القضية العربية والتضامن الثابت بين أقطار الأمة. وهذا نهجه في ما أصدره من مؤلفات بلغت ست وثلاثون مؤلَّفاً حتى الآن.
