ميخائيل حنا عواد (1912 - 1996)، هو مؤرخ كاتب وباحث عراقي ملقب بـ «الخالدي الأصغر»، ولد في الموصل عام 1912م وبها تلقى علومة الأولية ثم واصل دراسته في بغداد، وتخرج من دار المعلمين الابتدائية عام 1943م، وعمل بالتدريس ثم في أعمال إدارية بوزارة المعارف حتى تقاعده. وهو الأخ الاصغر لكوركيس عواد.

الحياة الثقافية سادها الركود زمناً طويلاً في ظل الحكم العثماني فألف الناس الركود وصارت الحركة توجع أجسادهم وأرواحهم، وتطاول الليل كثيراً فألفت عيون الناس الظلام وصار ضوء النجوم الخافت يؤلمها ويبهرها.. وحين دبت الحركة وارتفعت المشاعل وتعالت الأصوات داعية إلى النهوض للسير في موكب الشمس قال من لهم منفعة في بقاء الليل: "هذا خروج على ما تركه الأجداد"
