لا شك في أن الرحلة العقلية التي قطعتها البشرية عبر تاريخها هي رحلة انتقال من الجهل والخرافة باتجاه العلم والبحث الموضوعي المرتكز على أدلة مقنعة. ولقد ظلت البشرية تستند إلى رؤية خرافية في تفسير أحداث الكون إلى أن بدأ الإنسان رحلته الشاقة والطويلة لاستكشاف »العلل « الحقيقية التي تكمن وراء الأحداث.لكن الغريب أن الإنسان المعاصر الذي قطع أشواطًا بعيدة من هذه الرحلة نحو حضارة وتفكير يقومان على منطق »السببية « الذي يفسر الظواهر الطبيعية والبشرية منطلقا من أرضية البحث التجريبي. هذا الإنسان لايزال يحمل فوق كاهله طبقات متراكمة من آثار تفكيره الخرافي في الحقب السابقة. فغدا يقف في مفترق طريقين للتفكير. أحدهما يجذبه إلى إعمال العقل، والآخر يغريه بالنكوص إلى مراحل الطفولة الإنسانية بما تلازم معها من تفسير عشوائي للظواهر. هذا الكتاب هو محاولة لاستبطان حيرة الإنسان المعاصر وهو يقف في هذا المفترق الحرج بين طريقين متناقضين في التفكير. كما يكشف تورط بعض العقول في تبني الكثير من الأفكار الخرافية لتفسير بعض الظواهر المعقدة وإسهام وسائل الإعلام في ترويجها. كما يؤكد الكتاب أن العجز المرحلي للعلم عن تفسير بعض ظواهر الكون لا يعني أن نندفع إلى الخرافة قفزا على قواعد التفكير السليم التي أثبتت قدرتها على تحقيق إنجازات هائلة انتقلت بالبشرية نقلة نوعية حاسمة، وبدلا من ذلك فإن علينا مواصلة البحث العلمي وتشجيعه لنستكمل رحلة الإنسان إلى عالم المستقبل وليس إلى غياهب الماضي.
