يتناول الباب الأول واضع علم العروض ..آثاره ومصطلحاته.. واشتمل على ثلاثة فصول تناول الأول منها ميلاد علم العروض، والثاني واضع علم العروض، والثالث المصطلحات العروضية .أما الباب الثاني (علم العروض ومقوماته) فقد تناول الفصل الأول منه تعريفا بعلم العروض ومقوماته، والفصل الثاني: التفاعيل العروضية وتغييراتها، والثالث البحور العروضية ودوائرها، أما الرابع فقد تم تخصيصه للقافية . والباب الثالث من هذه الدراسة جاء عن العروض بين الفراهيدي وناقديه ، تناول الفصل الأول العروضيون والخليل، والفصل الثاني الشعراء وعلم الخليل، والفصل الثالث حول تطور النقد العروضي، أما الفصل الرابع فكان حول المنهج والدراسة
