يشتمل هذا البحث على دراسة تحليلية مقارنة بين العروض العربي والفارسي في مخطوطة ابن الفرخان "الإبداع في العروض" التي تضمّنت العروض العربي والفارسي. يقارن البحث بين علم العروض العربي الذي وضعه الخليل بن أحمد الفراهيدي، والعروض الفارسي كما عرضه ابن الفرخان في كتاب الإبداع. إذ اعتمد الأوّل المنهج الاستقرائي الذي قام على استقراء أشعار العرب التي اطّلع عليها واستخرج الأوزان المستعملة منها، بينما قصد الثاني إلى وضع الأسس التي يجب أن يقوم عليها علم العروض والأوزان. يناقش البحث أيضا قضيّة نسبة كتاب الإبداع، حيث نسبه الناسخ خطأً إلى ضياء الدين فضل الله بن علي الحسني، وتمّ إدراجه نسبة لهذا الخطأ تحت اسم ضياء الدين حسب تصنيف معهد المخطوطات العربيّة، مع سوق الأدلّة إلى نسبته لابن الفرخان. يعتمد البحث المنهج الاستقرائي التحليلي المقارن حيث يجري مقارنة بين منهج الرجلين، مبيّنا وجوه التشابه والاختلاف بين منهج الخليل بن أحمد في علم العروض،
