يشتمل هذا الكتاب على قراءات في تجربة الفنّان مهنّا الدرّة الحياتية، كما يحتوي على دراسة المرجعيات التي أثرت في تلك التجربة، والمراحل التي تجلّت في النص البصري، وطرق معالجاته وتقنياته للشكل والموضوع وفق لغة بصرية تعبر عن أسلوبه. ويناقش عددًا من القضايا التي تتصل بغياب الجماعات الفنية وعدم وجود مدرسة فنية يقترحها الدّرّة بموازاة مقترحه الجمالي. كما يدرس مراحل اشتغاله على اللوحة وتحولاتها بين الموضوع والمحتوى والشكل، وتأثّراتها بالأحداث والأساليب التلوينية والحداثية، ويتوقف عند أفكاره والمرجعيات التي أغنت تجربته من خلال الفلسفة والرحلات والعمل والتدريس.
