يشتمل الكتاب على أربعة أقسام تمتد بين الزمان والمكان وما بينهما من مساحة للذاكرة، فالقسم الأول يحمل عنوان "على مدخل الذاكرة" الذي تدوّن فيه الكاتبة مشاهدات الحياة برجع التجربة، وحمل القسم الثاني عنوان "ها هنا الآن"، الذي يحمل اللحظة الراهنة، أما القسم الثالث فيحمل عنوان "قبل النسيان" الذي يُنشِّط الذاكرة باستعادة الماضي بشيء من التأمل وكثير من الأسئلة، وفي القسم الرابع الذي حمل عنوان "كل الأشياء تبدأ ساخنة" تعود الكاتبة للحظة بدء وولادة للأشياء، التي تكون معها الأشياء طازجة وناضجة قبل أن تتعرض لأحوال الحياة وتقلباتها، وقبل أن تتركك عليها خدوشها وأثر مناخها.
