تقع الرواية، وهي الأولى للكاتبة، بين السيرة الذاتية والسيرة المرضية أو ما يمكن أن يسمى البوح.
وتصلح نهاية الرواية أن تكون هي البداية التي تستهل بها الكاتبة روايتها، كما تقول في الصفحة الأخيرة: "خرجت من بين أصابعي ياسمينة سوداء.. هي هذه الرواية".
والكتابة بالنسبة لبطلة القصة التي تروي حكايتها، هي رحلة الاستشفاء بالكتابة التي تسرد وقائعها منذ عقدين لتصل إلى معادلة التكيّف مع (العدو) الذي يجلس جوارك، وتألَفُه دون أن تخشاه، ولكنك تراقب حركته واحتياله بحذر وأحيانا بلا اكتراث.
الرواية التي تقع في 24 لوحة و145 صفحة من القطع الوسط تنقسم إلى نوع من المذكرات التي دونتها الكاتبة في عدد من المشاهد التي تبدأ باكتشاف المرض الذي رافقها طويلا، ولطالما تصدّت له بكل عزم، واستطاعت أن تتقبل ظلاله التي ترافقه دون أن تسلّمه نفسها.
