يهدف هذا الكتاب لبيان الأُسس المنهجيَّة عند المحدِّثين ، ولإبطال قول من يدَّعي بأنَّ منهج المحدِّثين لا يخضع إلى المعايير النَّقدية والمعيارية للحكم على الرُّواة والمرويات .
والحق أنَّ هذه الرُّؤية بعيد عن الإنصاف والموضوعية، فمن مارس هذا العلم وحقق في مسائله وقضاياه أدرك أنه قائم على أدلة القرآن الكريم والسُّنة النَّبوية فضلًا على اعتماده على قواعد شرعية وأدلة عقلية، فأهل الحديث ونقاده انطلقوا من أُسس ومعايير منها : المنهج الاستقرائي، ومنهج المقارنة، ومنهج الجدل العلمي، وإعمال العقل في نقد المرويات، والانطلاق من الشَّك المنهجي .
