لقد امتاز الشكل الليتورجي المعروف بـ"البيزنطي" والممارس في الكنيسة الرومية الأرثوذكسية بترابط أشكال طقوسه مع مضمونها، فجاءت طريقة إتمام الخدم والصلوات متناسبة مع معانيها ولاهوتها. إن كل صلاة من صلوات الدور اليومي، أي صلاة منتصف الليل وصلاة السحر وصلوات الساعات وصلاة الغروب وصلاة النوم، لها ميزاتها وموقعها في العبادة الخاص بها إلى جانب العناصر الليتورجية العامة والمشتركة فيما بينها. وهذا ينطبق على الأسرار أيضاً وسائر الخدم والصلوات، الأمر الذي جعل الطقوس تأخذ أشكالاً تتناسب وهذه الصلوات كي تعرب عن معانيها.
أما السنة الطقسية فقد اغتنت بحقبات متعددة أي الحقبة الفصحية وحقبة التريودي التي تهيئ للفصح مع الأسبوع العظيم وكذلك الفسحة الممتدة بين نهاية الفترة الفصحية وبداية التريودي. وكان لكل حقبة لونها الخاص بها القائم على الأحداث الخلاصية التي تمثلها.
وكذلك الروزنامة الكنسية فقد اغتنت عبر العصور مما أدى إلى هور تسابيح خاصة بأعياد القديسين الجديدة، كما أن العبادة عرفت أنماطاً متعددة من نظم التسابيح اختلفت بين حقبة وأخرى، الأمر الذي أغنى الكتب الليتورجية بترانيم جديدة تعود إلى الأعياد السيدية والوالدية وأعياد القديسين.
إذا نظرنا إلى هذه الأمور بعين الاعتبار وكذلك إلى أمور أخرى أيضاً تلازم الليتورجيا من استخدام للبخور مثلاً والشموع والملابس الكهنوتية وحركات الجسد (سجود، رفع الأيدي، وقوف)، وغيرها كان لا بد من ظهور نظام يرتب سير الخدم والصلوات. وقد جمعت هذه القواعد في كتاب يعرف بكتاب "التيبيكون". والدراسة التي بين أيدينا هي عرض للقواعد العامة والأساسية التي ترسم إتمام الصلوات وكيفية أدائها كما هي واردة في كتاب التيبيكون.
