إن تاريخ فن تنسيق الأزهار يعود في الأصل إلى كوغي، أي قربان الأزهار المقدم لبوذا وهو تقليد دخل اليابان مع بداية التبشير بالديانة البوذية فيها في القرن السادس. والياباني يقتبس من الطبيعة بقدرة الخلق والتكوين ويقلد في التنسيق خطوط الأشجار المتعرجة والأزهار النامية برياً في الغابات أو على سطوح الجبال عند تنسق لأزهاره. ويمنع منعاً باتاً استعمال المواد الاصطناعية مثل القماش والبلاستيك. هناك 3 خطوط أساسية في تنسيق الزهور الياباني. التي يتناولها الكتاب بالشرح والتوضيح ومن خلال الصور وذلك تطبيق فعلي على مجموعة من الأزهار الخطوط هي: الخط الأول: يرمز للقوة الغامرة التي تسيطر على حياتهم والتي يرمزون إليها السماء أو الشمس ويضعون عليها مكاناً دينياً أساسياً. الخط الثاني يرمز للإنسان صور حياته المختلفة. الخط الثالث: يرمز للأرض منشأ الحياة ونهايتها. هكذا نرى أن الأيكيبانا هي أحد أشكال الفن الذي يعكس فلسفتهم في الحياة منذ العصور الوسيطة وحتى أيامنا الحاضرة.
