نضع بين يديك هذا السفر، محتوياً المبادئ الأساسية للموسيقى المعروفة بالبيزنطية.والهدف من هذا السفر خدمة أبناء الكنيسة الذين يودون أن يتقنوا الترتيل على القواعد الثابتة والأصول الراسخة. وما ستجده في هذا الكتاب هو ثلاثة أبواب تبحث في ما يلي من المواضيع: الباب الأول النغمات والزمن وعلاماتهما، وفيه أكثر من مائة تمرين. الباب الثاني: السلالم الموسيقية الأساسية والفرعية. الباب الثالث: الألحان الثمانية تفصيلا ويوجد في ملحق الكتاب جداول الألحان والأنغام التي تم درسها. وتمن أهمية هذا الكتاب في أنه موجه إلى المرتلين الناطقين باللسان العربي، لذلك حرص المؤلف على اتباع كل تمرين يوناني بتمرين عربي يؤدي الوظيفة نفسها، دون التقيد بكلمات اليوناني. هذا في البابين الأول والثاني، أما في الباب الثالث، وفيه التطبيق العملي لكل من الألحان الثمانية، فترى أن التمارين كلها باللغة العربية، وكلها لتراتيل مأخوذة من الكتب الكنسية الطقسية.
