"تيقنت أني لا أزال على ضعفي حياله، وأن شيئاً في العالم لا يمكن أن يعزيني عن فقده، تمنيت لو أخرج من مكمني، لو أصيح بملء صوتي: رشدي: ألا تراني ؟ ألم تعرفني. أنا ليلى، أنا من قلت لي: إن أهلي دعوني ليلى لتصبح أنت مجنوني. لكني لم أتحرك. لا أريده أن يلمحني، حتى ولا يعرف أني لا أزال حية. أنا لم أعد ليلاه. أنا زوجة حنا. ليلى التي أحبها ماتت منذ ارتبطت بسواه."
