"سارتر ضمير عصره" كتاب يلقي الضوء على حياة الفيلسوف والأديب الفرنسي "جان بول سارتر" وقراءته النقدية لفلسفات عصره، واتفاقه او اختلافه مع أكثرها.
يعتبر سارتر أن الطبيعة الإنسانية توجد عند جميع البشر: أي أن كل فرد من الناس هو مثال جزئي لتصوّر كلّي هو الإنسان. وتقول الوجودية بأن الإنسان يوجد أولاً، ثم يكوّن ماهيته بعد ذلك ويبني مشروعه الحر الذي يكوّن وجوده؛ وبذلك فهو الذي يختار ماهيته.
لقد كان سارتر فيلسوفاً وجودياً، وروائياً، ودرامياً. وكان شاهد عصره، وضميره. فقد التزم بمشكلات هذا العصر، وشهد عليها، وكافح من أجل التأثير فيها. وكتب سارتر قبل نهاية حياته:
"إن الهدف الوحيد من حياتي، كان أن أكون كاتباً. وقد قررت، أكرر قررت، أنني قد قلت كل ما أحببت قوله".
يضم الكتاب تعريفاً بأعمال جان بول سارتر الأدبية – الروائية – والفلسفية، ومواقفه من المذاهب الفلسفية الأخرى، توزعت عبر محاور عدة نذكر أهمها:
