إذا كان ثمة سؤال تقليدى يتحتم طرحه فى أعقاب موت سارتر وهو السؤال عن فلسفته ومكانتها بين المذاهب الكبرى التى يحفل بها تاريخ الفلسفة, فإن الإجابة على هذا السؤال قد أصبحت تباين ما لاح لنا منذ سنوات بعيدة. ذلك أن مذهب سارتر- بعد كل هذه المنعطفات- يعود إلى التقليد الفلسفى الأصيل حين نجد فى ثناياه عين التساؤلات الكلاسيكية التى أثارتها الفلسفة الدائمة الأبدية فى تاريخها الطويل. فنظريات الإدراك الحسى والخيال والإنفعال ومسائل الوجود والوعى والحرية ومشكلة الفعل الإنسانى وقيمته الخلقية, كل هذه بأسئلتها وحلولها تجعل فلسفة سارتر حقيقة بإسم الفلسفة الدائمة.
وإذا كانت هذه الفلسفة قد بدت لنا فى بعض الأحيان فلسفة أزمة سوف تنقضى بإنقضائها فما كان ذلك إلا لما شهدته أوروبا فى النصف الثانى من هذا القرن من تحول عميق شمل كل أسباب الحياة, حتى بدا سارتر فى بعض الأوقات وكأنه ينتسب إلى عصر معين إنقضت كل معطياته.
والمتأمل فى الإتجاهات الثورية التى تتمثل فى رفض الأوضاع الإجتماعية والتمرد عليها وجدنا أنها تعود إلى سارتر وإنتشار أفكاره وليس إلى ماركس ودعوته الثورية. إن سارتر يصبح بهذا فيلسوف المستقبل, وهذه لا شك ميزة الفلسفة الأبدية التى من شأنها أن تتجدد مع كل عصر ومع كل تأويل. فإذا كانت فلسفة سارتر قد أغلقت من دونه بعد أن مات, فإنها فى الوقت عينه قد دخلت بين الفلسفات الدائمة فى تاريخ الفلسفة لتتجدد مع كل دراسة, فإن دارس الفلسفة فيلسوف ايضاً.
