الأدب بعامة يعكس وجدان الشعوب والأمم ويعبر عن مدى التقدم الحضاري الذي بلغته الشعوب. وأدبنا العربي-الفلسطيني بشعره ونثره أبرز صورة واضحة لواقع الإنسان الفلسطيني، بإيجابيات هذا الواقع وسلبياته. والقصّة والرواية والمسرحية، بدأت تتلمس طريقها مع بداية هذا القرن، بهدوء وحذر، يحدوها طموح واعد بناء فني متكامل. ومن بين ركام زمن الظلام والانحطاط، بدأت هذه الفنون الثلاثة تشق طريقها بثبات وعزم وإصرار على تخطي سجن الظلام إلى إشراقة شمس الحضارة ودفئها. فأخذ الكتاب على الرغم من المعوقات السياسية والثقافية والاجتماعية يركزون جهودهم على الترجمة والتعريب والاقتباس، ومن ضباب هذه المرحلة أي قبل 1948، خرج الكتاب الفلسطينيون، بإنتاج كمّي ونوعي، ساهم إلى حدّ كبير في شق الطريق أمام مرحلة أدبية تلت عام 1948 وكانت على جانب كبير من العطاء الأدبي الثري.
وفي هذا الكتاب "فنون النثر في الأدب الفلسطيني (1900-1948). يجمع الدكتور "واصف أبو الشباب" دراسة يكشف فيها عن جذور الأدب الفلسطيني في الجانب القصصي والروائي والمسرحي التي انطلقت من نهضة الأدب الفلسطيني خلال النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين بالرغم من الظروف المعيشية المتردية التي أحاطت بالشعب الفلسطيني.
