أنّ الدين ضرورة حياتية في حياة كل إنسان، فلا يوجد قوم عاشوا دون أن يتدينوا وبهذا تكون الفكرة الدينية منتشرة بين جميع الشعوب والأقوام البدائية والمتحضرة، لأنها من العوامل التي سيطرت على البشر، كما أنّ التحسس الديني من الخواص اللازمة لطبائعنا الراسخة، ومن المستحيل أن نتصور ماهية الإنسان، دون أن تتبادر إلى أذهاننا فكرة الدين كما يقول العلماء.
لكن تختلط في العالم اليوم وللأسف المعتقدات القديمة البدائية مع المعتقدات والأحداث في تقاطع ثقافي وفكري، حتى أن هذا الخلط انتهى إلى ظهور معتقدات جديدة بل إلى تيارات منحرفة تشكل خطورة كبيرة.
لهذا كان من الواجب علينا أن نستطلع جغرافية المعتقدات والديانات وأن نخوض في محتواها ومنهجها على أساس معالجة التجارب الدينية كونها نظام إجتماعي للعبادة يتفاعل مع البيئة لا على أساس التجارب الفردية.
