يحتوي هذا الكتاب على بحث في الجريمة والدين، يتناول مقارنة بين الأحكام الشرعية في اليهودية والنصرانية والإسلام، وتحليلاً فقهياً مفصلاً لأحكام الشريعة الجنائية الإسلامية، بين فيه من وجهة نظر اجتماعية بعض مقاصدها التي يمكن تطويعها للمناقشة، وفصول الكتاب الستة قد رتبت ترتيباً منطقياً، فأولها يركز على بحث ظاهرة الجريمة والمجتمع، وثانيها يتناول الجريمة والدين، أي يتناول العلاقة بين الظاهرة الاجتماعية والنظام الديني المرتبط بها.
ويناقش الفصل الثالث الجريمة والعلم، فيناقش مختلف النظريات التي تحاول تفسير أسباب الجريمة من وجهات نظر عضوية أو عقلية أو نفسية أو اجتماعية أو طبيعية أو تكاملية. ويحتوي هذا الفصل أيضاً على مناقشات لنتائج بعض فصول الكتاب ويمكن اعتبار ما جاء في هذا الفصول الثلاثة بحوثاً من علم الاجتماع الجنائي. أما الفصول الثلاثة الأخرى: الرابع والخامس والسادس، فيتناول أخطر الظواهر الإجرامية وأكثرها شيوعاً في العصر الحاضر، وهي جناح الأحداث والبغاء وتعاطي المخدرات-وهي في هذا التناول تفصيل للظاهرة تفصيلاً شاملاً، وتبين التفاعل الاجتماعي الوظيفي بينها وبين ظاهرات أخرى مرتبطة بها، تتركز في مواجهتها لمكافحتها، وتتفرع إلى جهود في دائرة القانون ومجال البحث العلمي للوصف والتنظير لخدمة التخطيط والتطبيق. ولتحقيق ذلك استندت البحوث في هذه الظواهر الإجرامية الثلاثة إلى شتى المراجع التي تنوعت بحوثها وبياناتها ومعلوماتها وبخاصة منذ بداية النصف الثاني في القرن العشرين الذي شهد انتشاراً ملحوظاً لهذه الظواهر في البلاد المتقدمة والبلاد النامية على حد سواء.
