الجريمة ظاهرة اجتماعية وخلقية وسياسية واقتصادية إضافة إلى كونها حالة قانونية. وقد رأى علماء الاجتماع على دراسة هذه الظاهرة باحثين في أسبابها ومنشئها ونتائجها. وهذا الكتاب ينصب بالدرجة الأولى على دراسة الجريمة وتحليل سلوك المجرم والظروف التي تحيط به وقت ارتكابه للجريمة، حيث تبادر المؤلفة إلى التعريف بعلم الإجرام لتمهد لتعريف الجريمة من وجهة نظر قانونية واجتماعية.
حيث تخلص إلى أن الجريمة بمفهومها العام هي أفعال تضر الفرد والمجتمع معاً، وهي تتميز بظهور خصائص معينه ترتبط بطبيعة السلوك الذي يمكن أن يطلق عليه اسم الجريمة وبسط المؤلفة بشيء من التفصيل المذاهب والنظريات في تفسير السلوك الإجرامي كالمذهب التقليدي والمذهب الوضعي أو الواقعي قبل أن تبحث في عوامل تحليل الجريمة كما يطرحها إتباع المدرسة الاجتماعية والمدرسة النفسية، والمدرسة الإكلينيكية، والمدرسة الإيكولوجية، والمدرسة الجغرافية. كما لا تغفل المؤلفة الحديث عن سلوك المجرم من خلال عرضها لآراء وليم شيلدن، ولومبروزو وفيري وكاروفلو.
والكتاب موجه بالدرجة الأولى إلى طلاب كلية الآداب قسم علم الاجتماع وكلية القانون، إضافة إلى كونه مصدراً هاماً من مصادر البحث في موضوع الجريمة حيث يلبي حاجة الباحثين والمتخصصين على حد سواء.
