لا شك في أن الإتجاه البنيوي قد قَدَّم فرصاً كبيرة للدراسات على أنواعها، لما فيه من صرامة علمية ومنهجية في تناول المواد وتحليلها، وكان تطبيق مثل هذا النوع من الدراسات على النصوص الأدبية - ولا سيما على الشعرية منها - قد فتح باباً للخروج من الدراسات الوصفية المسطّحة التي تكتفي بوصف العمل الأدبي، من غير التمكن من الدخول إلى جوهر النص، أو التوصّل إلى الوقوف على طبيعة بنيته، ومستوياته الدلالية، وتشكُّل معجمه الخاص.
ومن البديهي أن الدراسات البنيوية واللسانية الحديثة لا تخلو من الصعوبات بالنسبة إلى متلقّنها، لأنها محض علمية، ولأنها تختلف كثيراً عن نوع الدراسات التقليدية التي عرفها العرب، سواء في دراسة الصورة الشعرية التي قامت عندهم على حدي البيان والبديع [ما سُمّي بالمحسّنات الأسلوبية]، أو في دراسة معاني الكلمات وعلاقاتها ببعضها [ما ندعوه المعجم الدلالي]، مشيرين هنا إلى أننا لا نؤمن بفصل النص عن الذات، أو التاريخ، على النحو الذي قال به البنيويون.
ولقد رأينا، في هذه الدراسة، أن نتوقف عند النصوص، لا عند النظريات البنيوية، لأنها قد استُعرضت كثيراً، فنقوم بدراسة الصورة والفضاء الشعريين، ومدى ذاكرة الشعريين، ومدى ذاكرة الكلمات التي منها يتشكّل المعجم المختص بالنص، والتي تحدد طبيعةُ إستخدامها شعريّةَ النص أو نثريته، ثم نقوم بتجميع عناصر "الدليل"، وندرس طريقة تشكُّلها وتَمحْوُرِها، وإمكانيات تشكُّل النص المفتوح.
