هذه دراسةٌ تُعنىَ بمسألة حديثية بالغة الأهمية؛ حيثُ تتصلُ بعلوم الإسناد من جهة، وعلوم المتن من جهة أخرى، كما أنَّ لها أثراً بارزاً في فقه الحديث، وعلاقةً ببعض العلوم المُتفرِّعة من علم مصطلح الحديث، كعلم عللٍ الحديث وعلم مُختَلِفِ الحديث، وموضوعُ هذه الدراسة هو ما يُسمِّيه المُحدِّثون: تعدُّد الحادثة.
ومسألةُ "تعدُّد الحادثة" تستحقُّ أن تُفردَ بالبحث والدراسة؛ لأنها مسألةٌ دقيقةٌ، فقد تختلفُ رواياتُ الحديث الواحد إختلافاً يُؤدِّي أحياناً إلى أن يُظَنَّ أنَّ الروايتَين حديثان مُخَتلِفان، ويكونُ هذا الظَّنُّ مُخالِفاً لواقع الأمر، فقد تكونُ الرواياتُ كُلَّها تُخبِرُ عن حادثة مُعيَّنة، ولكنَّ إختِلافَ ألفاظ الرواة في حكايتها، وإقترابَ بعضهم من اللفظ الأول لرواية الحادثة، وإبتعادَ بعضهم عنه، بما يتضمَّنُه هذا الإبتعادُ من تغيير زمان الحادثة، أو مكانها، أو صاحبها، أو سياق ما جَرَى فيها، ونَحْو ذلك، كُلُّ ذلك أدَّى إلى إيهام تعدُّد وقوع هذه الحادثة.
