ومع التطور المتسارع في تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات، والذي أدى بدوره إلى تطور هائل في أنواع وإمكانات وسائط تثقيف الطفل، ومع ظهور مصطلحات مثل العوالم الافتراضية Virtual Worlds، والمجتمعات الافتراضية Virtual Communities، بحيث أصبحت الثقافة بلا حدود، في عالم بلا حدود، أصبح أمام القائمين على تثقيف الطفل تحدياً هائلاً، يتمثل في كيفية الاستفادة القصوى من تلك التطورات في مجال تثقيف الطفل، مع الحد من مخاطرها على هويته الثقافية، وذلك في إطار تحقيق الأمن الفكري للطفل، والذي يمثل ضرورة ملحة في عالمنا المعاصر، والذي يواجه تحدياً هائلاً يتمثل في انتشار الفكر المتطرف والإرهاب، بحيث أصبح تثقيف الطفل في إطار تحقيق الأمن الفكري، من أهم استراتيجيات مواجهة ذلك التحدي.
ويحاول الكتاب الحالي إلقاء الضوء على ثقافة الطفل في ضوء الاتجاهات المعاصرة، ويسعى لمساعدة الدارسين والباحثين والقائمين على تثقيف الطفل، على تحديد الآليات التي تمكن من القيام بالممارسات الإيجابية في مجال تثقيف الطفل، بما يواكب التطورات المعاصرة، ويساعد على تحقيق أهداف التنمية الثقافية للطفل العربي.
