تتشابه ظروف نضالنا الحالي ضد الهجمة الصهيونية والإستعمارية مع ظروف الحرب الصليبية، وكانت بلاد الشام مثلما هي الآن المركز الرئيسي للدفاع ورد العدوان وكان النصر من صنع دمشق حاضرة بلاد الشام.
ورغبة في دراسة تلك الفترة التي تلقي الضوء على طبيعة الصراع ومراحله وأشكاله الذي تم في عصر الأبويين والممالك ضد قوات الصليبيين ومن ثم المغول؛ فإن دراسات مماثلة أخذت تصدر عن بلاد الشام ومصر عموماً وعن بعض المناطق بشكل خاص مثل (دمشق) و(صفد) و(حلب) و(طرابلس)؛ وخصوصاً ان التقسيمات لبلاد الشام كانت كما يلي: (دمشق، حلب، حمص، حماة، صفد، الكرك) لذلك اخترت حماة التي كانت مركزاً متقدماً من الصراع والتي دامت كمملكة أيوبية أكثر من باقي الممالك الأيوبية بفضل جهود ملوكها وخاصة أبي الفداء.
وقد حاولت رسم صورة متكاملة عن حماة الأيوبية تشتمل مختلف مظاهر الحياة فيها، فبدأت في مقدمة تشرح موقع حماة وأهميتها ودورها، ونبذة عن تاريخها حتى بداية الفترة الأيوبية، ثم درست الحياة السياسية في مملكة حماة الأيوبية إعتباراً من فترة الولاية التبعية وحتى الإستقلال والملكية ودرست أيضاً فترة إنقطاع البيت الأيوبي عن حكم حماة وعودتها ولاية، ومن ثم عودتها مملكة في ظل ملكها أبي الفداء وابنه من بعده، حيث سقطت في عهده مملكة حماة الأيوبية وعادت ولاية مملوكية، ثم قمت بدراسة الحياة الإدارية ثم الحياة الإجتماعية، وانتقلت بعدها لدراسة الحياة الإقتصادية وأخيراً الحياة الثقافية.
ثم اتبعت الدراسة ببعض الملاحق التي تتمم رسم صورة شاملة وكاملة لمملكة حماة الأيوبية، مؤيدة وموثقة لمختلف نواحي الدراسة، وشارحة لبعض ما جاء في الرسالة، كذلك زودت البحث ببعض الخرائط التوضيحية.
