كتيب من سلسلة (رسائل العين)، غرضها الإرشاد والدعوة. يتناول هذا الجزء من السلسلة تقويم الذات، فيتعرض المؤلف خلاله للإيجابيات والسلبيات على سبيل التقويم، فيذكر من تلك السلبيات المبالغة في التقويم التي تتحول إلى تجريح أو المبالغة في المدح، والسكوت عن تقويم شخص ما، أو عدم الموضوعية في تقويم الآخرين.
ويتعرض للروافد التي تعينه على التقويم، وهي شهادة الاستفاضة والاختبار، ثم الجرح والتعديل، ولكل ذلك ضوابط تضبطه.
وذكر من موازين التقويم الإخلاص لله، والعدل، والموازنة، والحذر في إطلاق الأحكام على الآخرين، ومراعاة التبدل في السلوك، والصدق، والوضوح، وقبول التعديل من غير مبررات، دون التجريح الذي يحتاج إلى توثيق.
وينتقل إلى موضوع الإنصاف في الحكم على الآخرين، فينبه على أمرين، التوثيق والتجريح، ويبين صفة كل منهما. ويذكر المؤلف فوائد التقويم، ويختتم بقاعدتين في الجرح، وهما احترام ذوي الفضل، وعدم التسرع في الحكم، ثم تقويم الذات عند الحاجة.
