تجادل الدراسات المتخصصة في قيمة الثقافة واتساع مفهومها، وفي تعدّيها، من حيث ما تنطوي عليه، إلى التأثير في المجال العام، وإلى تقديم تبصّرات خاصة، تطاول السياسي والإقتصادي والإجتماعي، من خلال قراءة النصوص وإظهار ما تخفيه من آثار القوة العاملة في دعم الهيمنة والإستقطاب، وفي توليد الإستجابة المطلوبة لعمل المؤسسات الحاكمة في الإقتصادي وسياسات الإستتباع المختلفة. وهنا تلزم الإشارة إلى ىما جرى من توسيع مفهوم النص، بحيث يشمل سائر الصور والظواهر والممارسات التي يزخر بها المجتمع، وتتدفق بها أشكال الحياة اليومية.
ولما كان النقد الثقافي في مجاله النص والمكوّن النسقي فيه، رأيت أن أتخير عدداً من النصوص المتمايزة في صيغها، وفي انتمائها إلى الماضي أو إلى الحاضر، منها ما هو سردي، ومنها ما هو شعري، ومنها، أيضاً، ما هو بحثي نقدي، وأن أجمع بينها في هذه المحاولة القائمة على أساس توظيف ما أمكن من آلة النقد الثقافي وطرائقه في مواجهة النصوص، ومحاورتها، وفضّ مكنونها، وجلاء تنازعات القوة فيها، لعلّ في ذلك ما يرد على جوانب في النظرية كما يستقدم منها، بحيث تكون العملية في الإتجاهين حواراً آخر، يتكشّف عن مزيد من ثمرات الوعد والإنجاز.
أشير، أخيراً، إلى أنني ألحقت بما ذُكر بعض المقالات الموصولة بنقد الثقافة، وأفردت لها حيّزاً في ذيل هذا الكتاب، تتميماً للفائدة، وتوسيعاً للمشاركة النقدية، وإسهاماً في الرأي لا يمتنع عن الإنهماك في قضايا الشأن العام ولحظته الراهنة.
