ما لم ينجح فيه النقشبنديون الكرد كان الجانب العسكري، فرغم قدرتهم الفائقة في حشد الأتباع، لم يشكلوا جيشاً منظماً كالذي كان سائداً لدى الإمارات الإقطاعية، بعبارة أدق: لم تبنٍ هذه الطريقة الصوفية خلال أكثر من 70 عاماً، هي فترة هيمنتها السياسية، أية قلاع عسكرية.
لم تكن النقشبندية السياسية العسكرية طريقة مشجعة على العمران، وانعكس التقشف والزهد الذي حرصوا على إظهاره، في إنحدار المدنية الكردية التي باتت في الحضيض، ولا تتحمل نزعة الزهد والتقشف والرضا بالموجود وحدها المسؤولية عن التدهور المدني، فقد كان الوضع إجمالاً إنعكاساً لترهل الدولة العثمانية ووقوعها تحت ديون بريطانيا وفرنسا نتيجة الحروب الكبرى مع روسيا.
مع ذلك، لم يكن ضمن خطط مشايخ وقادة النقشبندية الإزدهار العمراني، فالأثر الوحيد الشاهد على تراثهم المادي، يتمثل في التكايا والأضرحة.
لم تَسر النقشبندية، مثلها مثل القادرية، بنسق واحد في أماكن إنتشارها، فظهرت مظالم كبيرة من شيوخها تجاه الفلاحين في منطقة مشيخة نهري، فيما كانت، مساندة الفلاحين والفقراء، في فترة من الفترات، هي السائدة في مشيخة بارزان.
