اشترى مزرعة بحوارة، جنوبي عالية، ألف كتباً عن لبنان من بينها كتاب "جبل لبنان" من ثلاثة أجزاء-ننشر هذه الترجمة للجزء الثالث منه-أنه كتاب خطير، فيه حب وكيد، وحقائق وأخطاء، يبحث في النزاع الدرزي الماروني وأسبابه. تعرف على المكائد السياسية، والتفاصيل التي عصفت في جبل لبنان إبان الفتن الطائفية. كما تعرف على تقاليد وعادات وأطباع الدروز والموارنة. مات في 2 شباط 1869 وله ابن اسمه ونستون. وابنتان تزوجتا من أميرين شهابيين.
