الالتزام رابطة قانونية بين شخصين يلتزم أحدهما ويسمى المدين بأداء ما عليه من مال لمصلحة شخص آخر وهو الدائن. والالتزام علاوة على ذلك رابطة قانونية. وفي هذا الكتاب يعرض المؤلف لمصادر الالتزام في القانون اللبناني والتشريعات العربية حيث يخصص القسم الأول من هذا المجلد لدراسة المصادر الإرادية كالعقد والإرادة المنفردة فيعرف العقد ويبين أركانه وشروط صحته وآثاره ثم يعقب بعد ذلك بدراسة الإرادة المنفردة.
أما القسم الثاني مخصص لدراسة المصادر غير الإرادية كالعمل غير المشروع والإثراء بلا سبب. والمصادر غير الإرادية يجمعها قاسم مشترك وهي أنها وقائع مادية يترتب على حدوثها نشوء الالتزام على عاتق شخص من الأشخاص دون أن تتجه إرادته إلى ذلك. أما المصادر الإرادية فيجمعها أيضاً قاسم مشترك واحد وهو أن الالتزام لا ينشأ عنها إلا إذا اتجهت الإرادة إلى ذلك. كما يبحث هذا القسم في المسؤولية التقصيرية وشروط انعقادها والانحراف أو التعدي. ويعرض للقاعدة العامة في الإثراء بلا سبب وشروط تحققه، ودعوى الإثراء، وتطبيقات الإثراء بلا سبب وأركان الفضالة وأحكامها، إضافة إلى التزامات الفضولي والتزامات رب العمل.
