كثيرون الذين كتبوا في الموجبات المدنية، وبحثوها بشكل كامل، إلا أنّ أحداً على حدِّ علمنا لم يَكتب في الموجب الطبيعي بشكل مُستقل، وبكتابٍ خاص، فقام مسلم عقيل عبده، بالبحث في الموجب الطبيعي بكتابٍ مُستقل متخصص، وكأن موجباً طبيعياً شّده إلى هذا الأمر، فجاء بحثه دقيقاً ومميزاً.
عرض الكاتب في بحثه للموجب الطبيعي في قسمين، فتناول في القسم الأول المفهوم القانوني للموجب الطبيعي، عارضاً لنشأة الموجب الطبيعي وللنظريات التي تجاذبت مفهوم الموجب الطبيعي وعناصر هذا الموجب، ثم حدد أنواع الموجبات الطبيعية وتناول في القسم الثاني الآثار المترتبة على الموجب الطبيعي الإيجابية منها والسلبية، وإعتمد الكاتب على مجموعة كبيرة من المراجع العربية والأجنبية بأسلوب مُبّسط سهل القراءة والفهم.
وُفِق الباحث مرتين، مرّة عندما تجاسر على طرق باب الموجب الطبيعي ومرّة ثانية عندما قدَّم هذا الموضوع بحلة جيدة شكلاً وأساساً، خاصة عندما قام بإجراء المقارنات بين القوانين موضوع الدراسة اللبناني والفرنسي والمصري.
وتجَّلت شخصية الكاتب في بلورة مفهوم الموجب الطبيعي وتقديمه تقديماً علمياً رصيناً، بعيداً عن التعابير العامة، فكانت عباراته القانونية دقيقة وأبدى رأيه القانوني في أكثر من موقع.
ويُعتبر كتاب الموجب الطبيعي من الكتبِ النادرة في المكتبة القانونية العربية في مجال القانون المدني، ويُعتبر مرجعاً قانونياً مُهماً في مجال الموجبات المدنية.
